2019 Alumni Awards Honorees

Schuyler Northstrom is the president and CEO of Uinta Mattress, a family-owned business located near West High School.

A  consummate professional, Schuyler is an experienced business leader in supply chain management, manufacturing professional and international business.

He received his MBA from Washington State’s, Carson School of Business with an emphasis in international business and has been blazing new trails for Utah industry ever since.

Ruth Gerritsen-McKane, PhD, is a tireless advocate for the community through her work as a social worker and social educator.

Over the years, she has educated hundreds of social workers at the University of Utah and Wuhan University of Technology in Wuhan, China to go out into the community and empower their clients.

Ruth has focused her work in empowering people with refugee status, international populations, women, children and survivors of abuse. Ruth’s long-lasting impact can be felt in the local, national and international communities.

Lieutenant Junior Grade (LTJG) Eduardo Reyes Chavez is a first-tour Judge Advocate General’s Corps attorney of the United States Navy.

A first-generation college graduate and first-generation immigration, Eduardo has a demonstrable commitment to public service. While at West, he volunteered hundreds of service hours in the community

During his time at Northwestern Law, he received the prestigious Lefkow Fellowship to work at the National Immigrant Justice Center, where he advocated for those without the resources to obtain quality legal representation.

Dennis Hutchinson distinguished himself at West High School in athletics, academics and student government. He was selected for the Salt Lake Tribune as the Class A 1st Team defensive back and also the Deseret News All-Region 2nd Team fullback.  He went on to play football at Point Military Academy where he excelled as a cornerback.

His career in the U. S. Army spanned 25 years in several countries, before retiring as a colonel

Dennis can now be found volunteering at St. Marks Hospital.

Julie Brooks-Dominguez has served as a dedicated member of the West High community for many years.

In addition to her day-to-day operations at the school as the Lead Youth Advocate, Julie assists the Alumni Association in its activities such as selling merchandise at the school and keeping things organized.

While not a graduate of West High School, Julie proudly claims West High as her alma mater.

Throughout his years as a student and beyond, Don has been a tireless advocate for West High .

After graduating from the University of Utah, Don taught Languages Arts at West High from 1968 to 1994, while also balancing responsibilities as a football, basketball, baseball and swimming coach, as well as serving as a student government advisor.

After leaving his role as a teacher at West, Don continued to serve the school community through the West High Alumni Association, serving as president from 2014-2018.
