On Tuesday, Nov. 27, the West High Alumni Association (WHAA) will hold its first-ever #GivingTuesday event to support its scholarship fund. Alumni and friends of West High interested in donating may do so at https://www.facebook.com/donate/766583567014294/.

Started in 2012, Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. It is celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday and is an opportunity to kick off the season of giving by supporting local charities and causes individuals are passionate about.

For its inaugural #GivingTuesday event, WHAA has two goals between now and the end of the event:

  • Raise $3,000: $100 for each year of the WHAA’s existence, and
  • Received from 128 donors: one for each year of 1 West High’s history

All donations are tax deductible and go to supporting scholarships for graduating West High seniors. Over the past 30 years, WHAA has given our more than $1.3 million in scholarships for students who might not otherwise have the financial means to attend college.

To donate to the WHAA as part of Giving Tuesday, visit https://www.facebook.com/donate/766583567014294/. Donors will receive a receipt from Facebook upon payment that includes the WHAA EIN for tax purposes.

Additionally, Facebook and PayPal will match any donations beginning at 6am MT on Tuesday made to WHAA on Facebook. The matching offer will expire when $7 million in donations to charities across Facebook is reached, so donors are encouraged to donate early to help ensure their donation is matched.

  2. Click “Invite” to invite fellow Panthers and classmates to participate in the cause
  3. Share the fundraiser on Facebook and social media
  4. Using the hashtag #GivingTuesday, share that you donated to the West High Alumni Association.
